Dreaming In Aquamarine

Dreaming In Aquamarine

We flew home into the blue of beyond two weeks ago. In a few days we will catch a plane to the tomorrow of a southern French sun. Poised today in the in between, I gaze once again at my beloved ocean and breathe him in with all of his pliancy.

The beach is crowded but it could be empty, such is the solace that strolls right up to me across the surf of the waves and holds me in a still embrace. The water ebbs and flows. Silvery bubbles sparkle for a fraction of an instant on the sand and are swept away, dissolving once again into the aquamarine surge.

I walk and watch the life of a summer’s day play out under my ocean’s ancient and benignly indifferent eye. Toddlers take their first gaze at his impossible vastness while older children dig for castles on his yellow sand. I move between the beach towels and umbrellas as seekers of the sun while away the hours. In the distance, the shrieks of those scampering through his rolling shallows ring in the air. Freedom and fun, youthful twin companions, dance hand in hand across a blue green rainbow of water into the misty horizon.

Later I sit and smile at my ocean, a formless anchor in this nameless land so resistant to man’s understanding. It took me days to get here but home has finally arrived and these aquamarine dreams fill up the in between.
