There have been days of overwhelming business of late, infused with that peculiarly American insatiability. It climbs right up inside your soul and grabs you by the throat, seemingly intent on stealing your last breath too.
We sit on the sand. The roaring wind muffles the rising curve of the ocean. She’s wrapped in a makeshift blanket fashioned out of a tiger towel.
I’m sitting quietly with my son by the river in Le Bugue just watching it flow. My husband and daughter are out on the water canoeing close by and the morning is gently grey.

We’ve been in London for ten days now….. Manhattan pulls you at once into the vortex of her breakneck pace and Los Angeles will entice your involvement with her sublime indifference and lavender skies. London, by contrast, is a graceful hostess.
