The sea and sky are softly grey today. The seaweed strewn beach could be a pocket of space picked up from its usual home and placed somewhere different entirely.

We walked along the beach this afternoon my daughter and I. She gathered shell fragments and I watched the footprints appear and disappear in the sand. The ocean was choppy and strong and I thought of Poseidon.
The scent of honeysuckle was strong on the breeze this morning as I dropped my daughter off for an hour under a grey sky. Rain is arriving back in LA tomorrow and I couldn’t be happier.
We are at the beach once again but it’s a different beach today. Perhaps it’s because the months have turned to December and the seasons have slid into their final movement of the year.
Back in our favourite spot, on a supremely hot Labour Day weekend, we sit in contented silence. After a stretch where our feet only lightly touched the ground, it’s enough just to enjoy the ocean.
